SIDAMO, ETHIOPIA
Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee.
Sidamo, a large area in the fertile lands of the Rift Valley, is one of three trademark coffee regions in Ethiopia (along with Harrar and Yirgacheffe).
The Sidama region, in Southern Ethiopia, is located between 1,550 and 2,200 meters above sea level, with abundant rains, optimal temperatures and fertile soil.
COOPERATIVE SCFCU (Sidama Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union)
This cooperative, founded in 2001, is made up of 47 first-grade producer cooperatives, all located in the Sidama Zone, in southern Ethiopia.
The cooperative has more than 85,000 producers, who have very small properties, with an average of ½ to 1 hectare per person, and keep traditional cultivation methods, respectful with the environment and people.
